Where are affordable dog training places in Portland Oregon?

I need a good dog trainer that is affordable or else we have to put our miniature schnauzer to sleep and I couldn’t bear to do that, he’s like family.

Most cities and towns have a dog training club that offers inexpensive classes taught by an expert trainer. You can find them listed in your telephone directory as well as online. Try "Portland Dog Training Club" or "Dog Training Club of Portland." There may be other, very affordable training classes in your area, too. Make some calls and see what the prices are for what you get. Generally speaking, you start with heel, sit, stay, stand, lay down and come…

I tend to think that you aren’t planning to put the dog down because it has an obedience problem but that it more likely has a BEHAVIOR problem. If your dog has a BEHAVIOR problem [digging, biting, barking, chewing, jumping on people, etc.] then you either need a certified applied animal behaviorist or a very good clicker trainer with experience in solving behavior problems. You can find CAABs online. They aren’t cheap but they do excellent work. You can try http://www.clickertraining.com to find a clicker trainer in your area who may be able to help.

Good luck, hope you keep your dog.

PetsMart has a fairly decent basic obedience training class. I’m not sure what your issues are, so I can’t suggest anything more than that. If it’s more serious than basic obedience, call your vet and ask for some trainer recommendations. They have oodles, I’m sure.
